Croatia joined ONE BILLION RISING

18 year old girl organized the RISING in Pula/Croatia

Women and men in Croatia rised together on Febraury 14th in the global strike (ONE BILLION RISING) as a refusal to accept violence against women and girls as a given.

203 countries joined this revolution.

Beside media, many celebrities, actors, musicians, politicians as well as the President of Croatia came to support the rising in Zagreb.

In difference to other cities, where the main organizers were experienced women’s rights-activists, in Pula it was the 18-year old high school girl, Maja Ramba Milicevic who rised her young friends to be part of the global strike ONE BILLION RISING.

In Pula, girls, women, dancers, students demonstrated their solidarity and unity of women against violence with skillfully dance steps. It all started with a symbolic gesture: with a warm hug between a boy and girl to show the vision: peace and love between men and women. Mostly high school girls were participating in the performance, although there were some boys who expressed their solidarity by joining. In difference to other cities, where the main organizers were experienced women’s rights-activists, in Pula it was the 18-year old high school girl, Maja Ramba Milicevic who rised her young friends to be part of the global strike ONE BILLION RISING. Thanks to the (unfortunately exclusively) young people, Pula, along with many other cities, was on the list of those who send a strong message concerning this serious global problem of violence against women.

The dance was brief but impressive. Many passers-by were stopping. The audience consisted mostly of fellow students who arrived to accompany their friends and acquaintances in this event. This for sure will leave a strong impact on the consciousness of the young people, who will hopefully create a more peacefull future!
