Relationship status: it´s complicated

If Academy Award Winner for Best Supporting Actress in 2007 Tilda Swinton, keyboard virtuoso Violet Gordon Woodhouse, tantric master Aba Aziz Makaja and billionaire founder of CNN Ted Turner would have facebook accounts, what would they put on their relationship status?

What indicates the facebook relationship-status: it´s complicated? What kind of relationship belong to this criteria? Are non-monogamus relationships really complicated?

Acording to this few stories, instead of complicated they are rather multiple happiness, very fulfilling and harmonious.

Let´s take a closer look:

Violet Gordon Woodhouse

"... was one of the greatest musicians of her generation, a virtuoso on the keyboard, who did so much to recapture the unique qualities of the harpsichord and clavichord and interpret the compositions of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Scarlatti. People would be enraptured by her musicianship. It was not only technically perfect, but she seemed to have a unique insight into the mind of the composer. Hearing her play was a rare and exquisite emotional experience. She put the whole of herself into the performance, expressing every nuance without sentimentality. But she expended the same emotional intensity to her relationships as she did to her music. Her vivacity could enthral her audience and leave them feeling they had been touched by fairy dust. Not only men but women too fell in love with her often for years.

But it wasn’t her virtuosity that attracted people. And it wasn’t her beauty either.

It was perhaps a certain imperiousness, a sense of personality that made people feel they were in the audience of somebody special, a presence that demanded attention, devotion and adulation. Her music was the expression of her personaility. She was a Queen.

She always saw the best in people and had an impulsive, bubbly nature, a, provocative gaiety that was irresistible and tended to bring out the same in others. She made people feel good – and if people feel good they tend to hang around.

First there was Gordon, whom she married, then Bill, the love of her life and then Max and finally Dennis. With interruptions, they all lived together in a ménage a cinq until separated by death. Apparently, they didn’t seem unhappy with the ‘arrangement’, which for a time scandalised the sensitivities of others. It seems that they got on famously and each in their unique way serviced Violet’s needs. Gordon expressed fidelity, Bill romance, Max intellect and Dennis courage.

One wonders what kind of men they were. Some have even suggested they might have been gay, though there is no indication of that. And they did not seem weak men. Bill, Max and Dennis served with great bravery and distinction in the Great War, all three attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. No, the arrangement seemed to suit them. "

Violet, the biography of Violet Gordon Woodhouse, was written be her niece, Jessica Douglas Home and published in 1996.

Tilda Swinton

There is something captivating and other-worldly about Tilda Swinton; her powder-white skin, as luminescent as a teenager's, her heavily lidded deep green eyes and that shock of incredible red hair.

Indeed, she is so extraordinary that at first you barely register whether there is a man on her arm, and if so who it is.

The locals are kept busy trying to work out what on earth is going on behind the closed doors of the Swinton-Byrne residence.

The truth, according to associates of Swinton, is that she is very deeply in love - with both men.

Tilda´s menSandro is her man when she travels - he is an artist and claims to have bases in New York, Paris, Germany, Rome and New Zealand.

But when Tilda goes home, she goes home to Byrne.

Byrne, a playwright and painter, whose TV show Tutti Frutti won six Baftas and who is a star in his own right, added: "Sandro and Tilda travel the world together. I have my work to do here."

He made it clear that he and Swinton still love each other, and that they continue to raise their ten-year-old twins Xavier and Honor together at their whitewashed home, which is in a secluded spot at the end of a tree-lined road.

Swinton though is doing her best to pretend that her living arrangements are absolutely nothing out of the ordinary.

"What arrangement?" she said, exiting a scruffy Land Rover.

"There is nothing to be cleared up.

"What is true is that John and I live here with our children and Sandro is sometimes here with us, and we travel the world together. We are all a family."

Asked if she was sharing her affections with both men, she said: "That is absolutely none of your business."

Tilda is an unsettlingly uncompromising woman. She joined the Communist Party as a student, and said recently that she rejects the "right to pursue happiness" as the heart of the rotten capitalist system.

She has no vanity and has been mistaken - because of her height and androgynous features - for a man ("I should wear more lipstick," she smiles).

She rejoices in her independence and the distance she has travelled from the bourgeois conventionality of her own family.

Ted Turner

In addition to being one of the richest men in the world, he owns the Cable New Network, Turner Network television, the Atlanta Braves and Hawks, is a champion yachtsman and, up until his recent separation, was married to fitness guru and actress Jane Fonda. He founded CNN and headed up one of the largest media companies in the world, donated $1 billion to the United Nations, has an estimated wealth of $2 billion and is America's second largest private landowner.

Ted Turner is permanently and avowedly non-monogamous. He has four girlfriends each of whom he spends one week with a month.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the media mogul and philanthropist, who owns 28 homes including 14 ranches, said a week per month for each girlfriend was "pretty much the general rule." He only named one of the women, the novelist Elizabeth Dewberry, who was with him at the time in New York. Until five years ago Miss Dewberry was married to the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert Olen Butler.

Asked if the other three unnamed women in his life were happy to share him, Turner replied: "Sort of." He still speaks to Fonda about once a month and, according to one friend, is "still in love with her."

Aba Aziz Makaja

International tantric master, spiritual teacher, as well as a spiritual psychotherapist and sexologist has been living in a polyamorous “marriage” with 5 women, between 15 and 25 years of marriage (all together almost 100 years of marriage experience) and raising a child with each of them. They live all together "under one roof" and call their polyamorous “marriage” - zajedna. The zajedna is the closest permanent life community composed of at least two human beings. All members of the zajedna are open to receiving new members at any time, under the same conditions, if love happens between one of the existing members and a new person.

Aba Aziz Makaja developed his own teaching from following Tantric Kundalini Yoga, the Christian spirit and his own spiritual experiences and founded an international community KOMAJA. At the core and centre of Komaja is the development of love: “Bringing about this devotion, this disintegration of the self through love – that is actually the greatest and only spiritual endeavour. There is no other.”

One of the most fascinating methods for many people is sex. According to Makaja, “Instead of using it, you abuse it. It is godly!” For over two decades Makaja has led Tantra groups. Along with guidance in the art of erotic love, he teaches an involved system which uses sexual energy for spiritual development. His teaching is varied, original and open to experimentation – just as he is himself.

Makaja won the American "Sexual Intelligence Award" in 2004 for being a "South-Slavic Sexual Enlightener". The influence of Makaja’s cultural and socio-political heritage, can be seen in his lobbying for the introduction of love-erotic education into primary and secondary schools, the introduction of teaching regarding Kundalini into medical school programs, and in his successful methods for overcoming drug addiction (privately and state financed), for example. At the beginning of 2003, Makaja’s chief organization, the swiss Komaja Foundation for the Promotion of Physical and Psychic Health via Komaja-Meditation-Methods was accepted as a member of the World Association for Sexual Health (WAS). This was at the former president of this prestigious scientific institution’s initiative. WAS closely cooperates with the WHO.
